每天都在改变生活

Teachers integrate nutrition lessons into everyday class experiences. 学生, after a short time of learning in the garden, can't wait to eat a spinach or hibiscus leaf freshly plucked from a bush. 在学年结束前, they beg to go outside and eat a freshly picked “snack” of highly nutritious fruits, 绿色蔬菜, 或蔬菜. 

Through the support of M-DCPS' Department of Food and Nutrition, 在学校场地种植的菜园农产品被鼓励纳入学校膳食. This initiative has been widely successful with all 51 of AG亚游集团官方网站's edible, garden-supported schools using freshly picked produce in their lunches regularly. 

At AG亚游集团官方网站's 30 Food Forests, 丰富的农产品泛滥成灾, allowing for regular harvesting of the multitude of edible plants.  当学生们从“食物森林”带回装满农产品的收获袋时,家庭就会受益. 学生 are excited to be involved in the cooking process at home, knowing they helped to grow the nutritious produce. Along with the encouragement of their children to better their meals, families eat healthier as a result of the easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables,

自2015年以来:

  •   257,274 Harvest bags have been sent home with families from 26 Food Forests
  •   13,046 Parents joined their children at 学校食物森林-supported events 
  •    6,714 times school grown produce was showcased in cafeteria lunches across all 51 schools

 

This has produced amazing results as shown by an independent evaluator:

In 2021-2022
55% of the students improved their attitudes towards food.
45% of the students improved their eating habits.
47% of the students increased their knowledge of nutrition.
